Beach Retreat 2023

Every year we have a weekend long beach retreat. It is a great opportunity to bond with our new members. We did teambuilding and logical exercises to work on how to better ourselves as a unit. We always have a blast, each year with a new crew. It allows us to break ice and get comfortable.

One exercise, called cannibals and missionaries, had us improve our problem solving and communication as a team. To play, we broke up in to groups, cannibals and missionaries and had to get everyone to the other side of the pool with one boat. The boat can only carry two people. There can not be more cannibals than missionaries on one side. Problem solving wasn’t the only thing we did though. We also had a fun time going to the beach, lounging the hot tub, and goofing off in the pool.

Preston and Evan electing who not to be carrying the bandana, they ended up having fun though.

This was a problem solving exercise we did, where we had to order ourselves from whose birthday first in the year to last was without talking to each other. It was similar to charades.

We practiced teamwork by carrying a cup on a bandana up the stairs to improve how we work together.

This was the beginning of the challenge, where we tried to have our similar-heighted team member work together.

We are so grateful to our coach for providing us with opportunities like this that give us time to bond and work together. Times like these improve how we solve problems in our team, and work gracefully at competitions. We would strongly recommend something similar to other teams, FIRST, and not FIRST.
