Performance Record Through the Years

1. In the “Bowled Over!” season, as a rookie team, we competed on the winning alliance and earned a 3rd place Think Award at the state level.

2. In our second season, “Ring-It-Up!,” we made it to the semi-finals and were awarded the 1st place Inspire Award.  For our first trip to Worlds in St. Louis, we learned a lot, had fun, and finished 30th in our division.

3. Our third season, with the “Block Party” challenge, brought with it changes to the FTC tournament structure.  Regional-level competitions were added, both in NC and nationally.  At state level, we captained the winning alliance and also won the Inspire Award, so we had the privilege of competing at the first ever FTCSouth Super-Regional Tournament in San Antonio, TX! There, after finishing 11th in our division, we were the first team selected by #92 “Junior Bomb Squad”, and our alliance won!  We were astounded to win the 1st place Inspire Award at that level.  At the end of the first day of qualifying matches at Worlds in St. Louis, we were ranked #1—undefeated after 6 rounds!  Overall we finished 13th in our division of 64 teams, with 6 wins and 3 losses.

4. In our fourth season, “Cascade Effect,” our three returning members and six awesome new members started off great.  At the 1st regional qualifying tournament, we were on the winning alliance and also won the Think Award, 1st place.  At our 2nd regional we brought home trophies for Robot Performance (Winning Alliance Captain team) and PTC Design Award, 1st place.

5. Our fifth season was the “FIRST Res-Q” challenge, and we did find it to be a challenging year.  However we ranked 3rd out of 24 teams at the first Regional Tournament, and won the 2nd place PTC Design Award.  Then at our 2nd Regional Tournament we ranked 2nd out of 22 teams after 5 rounds and captained the 2nd ranked alliance.  We won the 1st place Design Award as well.

6.  This brings us to our 6th season for FTC team #5309, for “Velocity Vortex.”  We won the Elon Scrimmage with Aperture as our Alliance Partner, scoring a total of 135 points in the Final Match. Next was the ASU Qualifier, where we placed 1st again, once more with Aperture as our Alliance partner, scoring a total of 185 pts. in the final round and guaranteeing our spot at States.  We also were awarded 2nd place for the Control Award, and 3rd place for the PTC Design Award.  A few weeks later we placed 5th at the Northern Guildford Qualifier, but were chosen as an alliance partner and got to participate in the semi-final rounds.  We also placed 1st for the Motivate Award; 2nd for the Inspire Award; and 3rd for the Innovate Award. At States we ranked 5th place overall, and were the Team Captain for the 4th place Alliance Team in the Semi-finals.  Although we were bummed not to advance to Super-Regionals, we were thrilled to take home the 1st Place Control Award.
