Loki Scrimmage

Every year, Loki hosts an off season scrimmage we look forward to attending. On July 27th, we woke up early, filled with excitement. Packing up our gear, we set foot into an awesome day!

We decided to make a few changes for this competition that we wouldn’t normally make.

  1. No scouting. Our lead scouting organizer, Lauren, found since it is a low-stakes event, we should focus on team building and having fun, along with bonding with other teams. This worked fantastic for us as we had a great time and felt good about having more time for learning and working on friendships.
  2. Pick the not-best robot teams. This was a decision made to give teams that put in work but don’t often make it far in competitions a chance to experience the semi-final/final matches. We had done something similar last season after qualifying by picking teams fitting that description and carrying them to states for their first time. This time was just as awesome.

We had a lot of fun this way.

During the off season we also built a robot that fires a Nerf gun and brought it to the scrimmage. It caught a lot of eyes and made for an exciting addition. For kicks we tried to get it to pass inspections, judges and referees gathered around to see if we could all find a work around. Unfortunately we ultimately ruled that it is not fit to run.

Make sure to check out this awesome video of it!

Ultimately, this made for a wonderful day filled with unforgettable memories. Thank you so much to Loki for hosting such a fun event and having us as your guest.
