How it started (2023)
Millard, our coach, came up with a fun way for our team to learn while on the off-season. It allowed us to keep our skills sharp, and even learn new ones!

This challenge was composed of a variety of elements taken from previous games. This allowed us to reuse field elements that we had kept in the workshop. Our coach provided only necessary feedback and suggestions to be able to allow team members to experiment and test new ideas.
The Process
To begin, we split up into two different teams to compete against each other. We agreed that the two oldest members of the team should choose who would work with them for skill sets that best complimented each other.
Lauren’s team included Maddie and Reid.
Isabel’s team included Preston, Evan, and Whitman.
By splitting up, we were able to work on skills each member wouldn’t have normally focused on as much during the season. This was a perfect opportunity to expand skill sets.

At the end we ended up learning from the other mini-team with what worked well and what didn’t with their designs, while also keeping our robots’ individuality.

Here is an above view as well.

Wrapping It Up
At the end, our winners of the mini off-season challenge was Laurens’ team with Maddie and Reid. Each member was able to learn valuable skills and learn to work with their teammates. Splitting the team creating challenges as members were unable to rely of certain aspects they were used to being accomplished by others. We would highly recommend other teams to do this and we plan on continuing this learning experience for future seasons.
