On March 23rd we went to Alamance Community College to volunteer. We ran STEM booths with other volunteers and did odd jobs such as set-up early in the morning and DJing the dance party. We were able to work with kids from nine local elementary schools. We spent the day with them and got them excited about science.

We helped set up booths and prepared rooms in the morning before the event even started. Our arrival time was 7:15AM. We then volunteered during all three periods to help with various activities. Lauren DJed and started/kept the party going with the kids while they rotated out through our demonstration.

One of the big ways we were able to make an impact is by bringing our robot and part of last seasons field for a demo. We talked with small groups at a time for a 1-on-1 session where we were able to describe our robot, it’s functions and the FIRST program. We let them and their parents know about age-appropriate FIRST. The kids were so excited to interact with the robot, being able to build paper airplanes and launch them was thrilling. We even demonstrated placing pixels on the backdrop and how our robot hung on the rigging.

Awesome thanks to Melaine Rickard for organizing the event! We had a blast!
